Lili Reinhart, Danny Ramirez, Suki Waterhouse, Mark Duplass and Lukas Gage Team for Horror Movie ‘Violet’ From ‘Verity’ Writer (EXCLUSIVE)
Lili Reinhart, Danny Ramirez, Suki Waterhouse, Mark Duplass and Lukas Gage are teaming for “Violet,” a psychosexual horror that looks likely to be one of the hotter packages going into the American Film Market.
The film is being directed by acclaimed genre filmmaker Patrick Brice, who is behind the “Creep” franchise. It was written by Nick Antosca, fresh of the back of his box office hit “Verity,” and Alana B. Lytle, who adapted from Antosca’s short story “Ghostfish.” SK Global and Generator Entertainment are producing and financing the film.
FilmNation Entertainment will launch sales, both domestic and international, on “Violet” at the AFM, with production slated to begin in spring 2027.
The synopsis reads: Two years after the sudden death of his fiancée, Violet (Waterhouse), Sean (Ramirez) has finally begun to move on, finding love with his childhood friend Kate (Reinhart). But when the couple moves into the home Sean once shared with Violet, he starts receiving unsettling text messages from someone, or something, claiming to be his dead ex. In an age of constant connectivity— where every text, photo, and digital footprint lingers forever— do exes ever really let you go?
In addition to SK Global and Generator Entertainment financing the film, Kelly McKee and Kenneth Browning will produce for Generator Entertainment, alongside Elizabeth Haggard and Dylan Tarason for SK Global, and Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat. Executive producers include Jeannine Tang, Chris Collins, Rasool Alizadeh, Gemma Levinson, and Jackson Stewart. Emmy nominee Jessica Kelly (“Euphoria,” “A Real Pain,” “Pieces of a Woman”) is serving as casting director.
Alongside the horror franchise “Creep,” which he co-wrote with Duplass (who also starred), Brice’s other directing credits include the Sundance competition film “The Overnight” starring Adam Scott, “Corporate Animals” starring Demi Moore, and the Netflix horror film “There’s Someone Inside Your House.” He also co-created, co-wrote, and directed the Shudder series “The Creep Tapes.”
Antosca, meanwhile, recently wrote the Colleen Hoover adaptation “Verity,” starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson, which earned more than $170 million globally earlier this year. He’s also known for creating the horror anthology series “Channel Zero” and Hulu’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning limited series “The Act,” plus “Brand New Cherry Flavor,” “A Friend of the Family” and Apple TV’s recent adaptation of “Cape Fear.” He also wrote the supernatural horror film “Antlers,” based on his short story “The Quiet Boy.”
“Riverdale” breakout Reinhart most recently starred in Amazon’s acclaimed “The Love Hypothesis,” while she can also be seen in “Look Both Ways” for Netflix and “Hustlers.”
Ramirez’s credits include the global hits “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Captain America: Brave New World,” while he’s slated to star in Todd Haynes’ “De Noche” opposite Pedro Pascal, the Russo Brothers’ “Avengers: Doomsday” and Joseph Kosinski’s “Miami Vice ’85.”
Waterhouse, best known for “Daisy Jones & The Six,” “Assassination Nation” and “Love Rosie,” recently released her third studio album “Loveland” via Island Records.
Multi-hyphenate Duplass, an Emmy winner for exec producing the Netflix docuseries “Wild Wild Country” and two time Emmy nominee for his acting in “The Morning Show,” was recently seen in global smash hit “Backrooms,” while his other film credits include “Zero Dark Thirty” and “Bombshell.”
Gage’s film credits include hit horror sequel “Smile 2,” Prime Video smash “Road House,” plus “People We Meet on Vacation,” “Companion,” TIFF hit “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” and Netflix’s “Voicemails for Isabelle.”
Brice is represented by CAA, Untitled, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Antosca by WME and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis; Reinhart by UTA, Entertainment 360, and Peikoff Mahan; Ramirez by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Entertainment 360, Viewpoint, and Hansen Jacobson Teller; Waterhouse by CAA and Independent Talent Group; Duplass by CAA and Hansen Jacobson Teller; Gage by WME and Goodman Genow Schenkman.
