Keanu Reeves Set to Return as John Wick in Animated Prequel Movie
Break out the nunchucks because Keanu Reeves has officially closed a deal to return as John Wick in Lionsgate’s animated prequel movie about the legendary hitman.
As previously announced, the story recounts the origins of Wick as he completes the Impossible Task — the killing of all of his rivals in one night — to free himself from his obligation to the High Table and earn the right to be with the love of his life, Helen.
Shannon Tindle, an animation veteran who is best known for Netflix’s “Ultraman: Rising” and “Kubo and the Two Strings,” will direct from a script by Ryan and Kaz Firpo. The “John Wick” producing team of Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, 87Eleven Entertainment’s Chad Stahelski will produce alongside Reeves, and they will be joined in the new feature by Point Grey.
“In both animation and the world of ‘John Wick,’ the possibilities are endless. And there is no ‘John Wick’ story fans are clamoring for more than the ‘Impossible Task,’” Lionsgate’s motion picture chair Adam Fogelson said in 2025 when the animated project was announced. “Shannon’s take on that story is an incredible one, and we are beyond excited to see what John Wick can do in animation.”
“John Wick” has grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office across five movies, including the Ana de Armas-led spinoff “Ballerina.” Lionsgate is continuing to expand the series, which revolves around titular hitman as he continues his fight against the powerful organization known as the High Table. There’s a fifth live-action “John Wick” in development, as well as a standalone adventure based on Donnie Yen’s blind assassin Caine.
