2027 Oscar Predictions: ‘The Odyssey’ Hits the Campaign Trail, ‘You Can See Everything’ Loses DGA Eligibility and Zendaya Makes Her Move
Variety Awards Circuit section is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year, featuring the following: the official predictions for the upcoming Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Tony Awards ceremonies, curated by Variety chief awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday.
2027 Academy Awards Predictions Commentary All Categories (Updated: Nov. 5, 2026): It’s November, the Oscar race is finding its rhythm and the campaigns are beginning to show their hands.
Universal Pictures’ official Oscar campaign for Christopher Nolan’s epic kicks off in earnest the week of Nov. 9, with a run of screenings and Q & As that puts Nolan, producer Emma Thomas and star Matt Damon in front of voters nearly every night for two weeks.
Variety confirmed that Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s “You Can See Everything” will not be in the running for the Directors Guild of America Awards’ top prize this season.
Zendaya will campaign for Oscar consideration in the lead actress category for her role as Chani in “Dune: Part Three,” the final chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic. In the same vein, Mubi will campaign Sandra Hüller and co-star Hanns Zischler in the supporting categories at the Oscars and across the awards circuit in lead actress for “Rose.”
The final drips of Golden Globe submissions were revealed, with Jordan Firstman’s “Club Kid,” his feature debut as writer, director and star, submitted in the drama categories. Amazon MGM Studios will be juggling two contenders in musical or comedy: Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s “Project Hail Mary,” starring Ryan Gosling and Peter Farrelly’s “I Play Rocky,” starring Anthony Ippolito.
On the Oscar chart front, Nolan’s “The Odyssey” still leads the fray with 14 projected noms, which would tie for the second-most of all time alongside “All About Eve,” “Titanic” and “La La Land,” behind the record-setting 16 earned by “Sinners” last year, a mark “The Odyssey” could still tie or break.
The films still waiting in the wings include Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Three,” David Fincher’s “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth,” Anthony and Joe Russo’s “Avengers: Doomsday” and Robert Eggers’ “Werwulf,” each of which can or will, shake up a few categories in its own right.
This week’s updates are below.
