Wyatt Russell’s Monsterverse Series at Apple TV Adds Tim Robbins, Giancarlo Esposito
Tim Robbins and Giancarlo Esposito are set for guest star roles in the new Monsterverse series in the works at Apple TV, Variety has learned.
Robbins and Esposito will appear opposite series lead Wyatt Russell and previously announced cast members Millie Brady, Pilou Asbaek, Corey Stoll, Ralph Ineson, Nyasha Hatendi, Connie Nielsen and Stana Katic.
The series will again see Russell play a young Col. Lee Shaw, whom he plays in “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.” The logline for the spinoff states that Shaw is “an American operative who in 1984 went on a secret mission behind enemy lines in an attempt to stop the Soviets from unleashing a horrific new Titan big enough to destroy the U.S. and turn the tide of the Cold War.”
Further character details are being kept under wraps.
This will be the second Apple series for Robbins, who also stars in the streamer’s popular series “Silo.” He has also been in shows like “The Brink,” “Here and Now,” and “Castle Rock.” In film, Robbins won an Academy Award for his work in the film “Mystic River,” while he also received a nod for best director for the film “Dead Man Walking.” He known for starring in features like “The Player,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” and “Bull Durham.”
Esposito is known for TV roles in shows like “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” as well as “The Gentlemen,” “The Boys,” “The Mandalorian,” and “Godfather of Harlem.” In film, he is known for collaborating with Spike Lee on features including “Do the Right Thing,” “School Daze,” “Mo’ Better Blues,” and “Jungle Fever.”
Robbins is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content. Esposito is repped by UTA, MGMT Entertainment, Jackoway Austen Tyerman, and The Initiative Group.
The untitled Monsterverse series is executive produced by Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell for Safehouse Pictures. Harold is also showrunning and developing multiple projects in the Legendary Monsterverse. Russell also executive produces along with Andy Goddard, Kyle Bradstreet, Jim Skotchdopole, Max Borenstein, Chris Black, and Alex Boden. JD Dillard will serve as director and executive producer. Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita executive produce on behalf of Toho Co., Ltd., the owner of the Godzilla character.
It was recently reported that “Monarach” is eyeing a major creative reboot should it go to a third season, which would mean a new writing team and showrunner would take over the franchise.
