Warhammer 40,000 Animated Series Produced by Henry Cavill to Tell a 'Long-Form Story' Featuring The Deathwatch

The Warhammer 40,000 animated series in development by Amazon will tell a "long-form story" featuring The Deathwatch, with Henry Cavill set to serve as an executive producer.

The series will begin as a spinoff from the Warhammer 40,000 episode of Secret Level, Amazon's animated anthology series that aired back in 2024, Amazon announced previously. The episode's director Dave Wilson will now serve as this new series' director and co-creator, alongside Band of Brothers writer John Orloff. Animation will once again be handled by Blur Studios.

This is on top of a further Warhammer episode of Secret Level set to debut in the series' upcoming second season, though set in the Warhammer: Age of Sigmar universe.

Details of what Amazon's full animated series will feature remain thin on the ground, other than it starring elite alien-hunting Space Marine group The Deathwatch. Exactly how many episodes the series will feature remains to be seen, though Wilson has described the project as a "long-form story" set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

"Secret Level wasn't conceived simply as an anthology," Wilson told Variety. "It was designed as a launchpad for larger stories. The response to the Warhammer episode was extraordinary, particularly from fans who understood how much care went into getting the world right.

"This series gives us the opportunity to build on that foundation and tell a much larger story. I've wanted to tell a long-form story set in Warhammer 40,000 for more than 20 years, and I'm incredibly grateful to Games Workshop and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to do it."

Warhammer 40,000 is already set to become a live-action series, with Amazon and Cavill still working on that. Indeed, we recently learned that horror maestro Mike Flanagan is now on board the project too. But with a script for that still to be written, there's a possibility that this new project may end up debuting first.

Amazon's other game-related projects include its Fallout series, upcoming Tomb Raider show starring Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner, a God of War series that's currently going through some cast changes, and a Life of Strange adaptation that is currently filming.
