The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel Finally Got Its Name Today, but Bethesda Says It Will Be 'Some Time Before We’re Ready to Share More'
Bethesda finally revealed the name for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, more than eight years after teasing it at E3 2018, but we'll reportedly have to wait at least two more years before it comes out.
After releasing its 'Official Name Reveal' trailer for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, Bethesda posted on X / Twitter to say that "Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you."
So, if you were hoping that Bethesda breaking its silence was a sign that the game was coming out any time soon, well, you're going to have to wait a bit longer.
What's taking so long? Perhaps the better question is, why did Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 so early? Bloomberg's Jason Schreier posted on Bluesky to say that when Bethesda teased The Elder Scrolls 6 back in 2018, it was to "to soften the blow of Fallout 76," rather than to suggest it was anywhere close to release. The multiplayer-focused Fallout 76 was panned by critics at launch, with most Bethesda fans expressing their dismay that the studio had veered away from its single-player roots. Schreier followed up to say that The Elder Scrolls 6 is "still more than two years away!"
However, both Bethesda and Xbox CEO Asha Sharma have confirmed The Elder Scrolls 6 is in a playable state. In August, Sharma tweeted that she was getting a live playthrough of the game, while also teasing the subtitle with a lot of asterisks, which sent Elder Scrolls fans into a frenzy trying to figure out what the game would be called.
