Sega’s ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ to Launch Lingokids Games (EXCLUSIVE)
“Sonic the Hedgehog” is coming to the popular interactive kids’ gaming platform Lingokids this December as part of a larger ongoing partnership with Sega.
Developed as a collaboration between Sega and Lingokids Studios, these five “Sonic” games will combine “fast-paced adventures with playful learning experiences” and feature “Sonic the Hedgehog” characters including Sonic himself, as well as Amy, Eggman and the fan-favorite Chao creatures.
“Kids can strengthen their spelling and letter recognition skills while discovering action verbs as they race through Green Hill Zone, explore fruits and flowers while guiding Sonic and friends along exciting paths, and unleash their creativity by painting colorful scenes with their favorite characters,” according to the description for the suite of games.
These games will launch Dec. 3 on Lingokids with five more “Sonic” games slated for release in spring of 2027.
According to Lingokids’ 2026 Kids Interactive Entertainment Report, Sonic the Hedgehog is the second-most popular character among boys ages 3-8. That study also showed that approximately one in six kids who use Lingokids discover new characters on the platform for the first time, and more than half ask to watch movies and shows of characters they encounter on Lingokids.
“Simply put for us, families have been asking for Sonic for a while now,” Lingokids Studios chief Mathias Royer tells Variety. “It’s the most searched character on the platform by far and it was an obvious fit for us to to go with Sonic.”
The Sega team-up in particular is meant to introduce young fans to Sonic with an interactive experience designed specifically for their age group, with “no ads, no chat, every piece of content vetted by education experts,” per Sega of America vice president of strategy and creative for emerging digital platforms, Hez Chorba.
“We always want to meet the the fans where they’re at, and we’re we’re diving back into younger demographics at this point with Sonic as entry points,” Chorba said. “So when Lingokids came to us and they showed us the data that Sonic was the most-searched character, we were like, OK, well this is parents now talking to us, telling us, hey, we need this. So that means that you have core fans out there that you want to make sure have the tools to introduce Sonic to their kids.”
Currently, Lingokids says the platform is used by more than 20 million kids each month and has reached nearly 200 million downloads worldwide. Host to more than 4,000 games, shows, and songs, Lingokids has struck several high-profile partnerships with brands including Disney, Blippi, NASA, BBC Earth, and Oxford University Press, in addition to its most recent deal with Sega for “Sonic.”
