Pokemon Unite to Be Taken Offline in 2027, In-Game Sales Suspended Immediately
Pokemon Unite will end service on March 23, 2027, following the game’s final competition, the Aeos Crown 2027, just two days prior in Tokyo. The MOBA Pokemon battler will be shut down on both Nintendo Switch and mobile.
According to The Pokemon Company, Aeos Gem sales have been halted immediately along with any new Unite Club memberships and automatic renewals.
“We offer our sincerest gratitude to the many Trainers who have played since service started for the Nintendo Switch version on July 21, 2021,” said the announcement. “We hope you continue to enjoy Pokémon Unite until the final day of service.”
Once the game closes, players will be able to view their stats and achievements, and even play practice rounds, but online matches won’t be available. To do so, you’ll need to download a new library feature.
"Even after service ends, players who complete the required library data download before Tuesday, March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC will be able to use the library feature to view certain records and in-game content,” the announcement said. “Players who do not complete the required download before service ends will not be able to use the library feature afterward.”
Many expected the news after Pokemon Unite was conspicuously absent from the Pokemon World Championships 2027’s list of games. The final update lands in November, along with a special event where players can grab Unite licenses, Holowear, and other items.
Pokémon Unite was originally released on July 21, 2021, for the Nintendo Switch, and on September 22, 2021, for Android and iOS mobile devices.
IGN’s 6/10 Pokemon Unite review called it “an entertaining casual MOBA constrained by its overcommitment to simplicity (and some questionable microtransactions).” At least those are gone now.
Here’s a list of every Pokemon game you can play on Switch right now. We’ll update that when Unite ends service in 2027.
