‘Game of Thrones’ Movie ‘Aegon’s Conquest’ Sets Summer 2029 Release Date

Winter is coming to the big screen… in summer of 2029.

“Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest,” the first movie set in the fictional world of Westeros, has been scheduled for June 6, 2029. Owen Harris (“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”) will direct the film from a screenplay by Beau Willimon.

Little is known about the plot of the upcoming movie, though the story is reportedly about Aegon I, the founder of the Targaryen dynasty, and his conquest of Westeros a few centuries before the original “Game of Thrones” television series. Aegon I has never appeared on screen. But the royal family — which eventually spawned the ice-blonde Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke — has been the basis for HBO’s two successful spinoff series, “House of the Dragon” (which returns this summer) and “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” (which just finished its first season). Based on the best-selling fantasy novels by George R.R. Martin, “Game of Thrones” ran for eight seasons and earned tons of Emmy Awards.
