My Chemical Romance Scores First-Ever No. 1 on Albums Chart With ‘The Black Parade,’ 20 Years After Its Release
My Chemical Romance has scored its first-ever No. 1 on the Billboard 200 as “The Black Parade” surges from No. 139 to the top of the chart, 20 years after its initial release.
The group reaches the chart summit for the first time following a deluxe reissue of the album with 78,000 equivalent album units. My Chemical Romance first dropped the album on October 23, 2006, peaking at No. 2 and becoming their highest-charting album until now. With their latest achievement, the band has had the longest-ever wait for an album to return to No. 1, surpassing the near 16-year wait for Toby Keith’s “35 Biggest Hits” following his death in 2024. It also becomes the first anniversary album ever to debut at No. 1.
My Chemical Romance celebrated the 20th anniversary of “The Black Parade” with a five-night series of epic shows at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, where they performed the album in its entirety and built out its fabled world on the stage. At the time of its release, the sprawling rock opera, which included the hits “Welcome to the Black Parade” and “Teenagers,” was a critically heralded step forward for the quartet, expanding the scope and ambition of their previous work.
Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, Olivia Rodrigo’s “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love” falls from No. 1 to 2, followed by Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem,” Ella Langley’s “Dandelion” and Noah Kahan’s “The Great Divide.” Rounding out Nos. 6 through 10 are Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl,” Zach Bryan’s “Young Manhood and Other Donatable Organs,” Kahan’s “Stick Season,” Drake’s “Habibti” and Olivia Dean’s “The Art of Loving.”
