Juno Temple, Joey King and James McAvoy to Star in Sci-Fi Comedy Film ‘Almost You’ From ‘Ted Lasso’ Director Matt Lipsey (EXCLUSIVE)
Juno Temple (“Ted Lasso,” “Fargo”), Joey King (“We Were the Lucky Ones,” “The Act”) and James McAvoy (“The Last King of Scotland,” “Atonement”) are set to star in the upcoming — and somewhat timely — sci-fi AI comedy movie “Almost You.”
The film, currently shooting in Glasgow, is being directed by Matt Lipsey, whose credits include multiple episodes of the Emmy-winning “Ted Lasso” as well as “Inside No. 9” and “Little Britain.”
Bankside Films has acquired the feature for worldwide sales and is co-repping for the U.K. and North America with UTA Independent Film Group.

“Almost You” follows Phoebe, a brilliant robotics engineer struggling to come to terms with the death of her younger sister, Edie. Defying all the protocols of the tech company she works for, Phoebe uses years of messages, videos and social media posts to create a lifelike AI replica of her sister, at first bringing her a great deal of joy and comfort. However, as per the synopsis. Phoebe’s extraordinary invention soon forces her to confront one impossible question: if you could bring someone back, should you?
“Almost You” reunites McAvoy with Danny Page, who produced his directorial debut “California Schemin’,” which recently released in the U.S., and his latest feature “Faith,” which debuted in Toronto. Page produces for Homefront Productions and Blazing Griffin alongside Matt Schichter (“Mother Father Sister Brother Frank,” “CFNY: The Spirit of Radio”) of Scared Goose Entertainment and Rory Stewart. the film is being produced in association with Parker Films (James McAvoy and Lisa Liberati) with financing by Blazing Griffin and Homefront Productions. Finance is also being provided by Yeti Entertainment and Head Gear Films.
“There’s never been a movie that needed to be made more than this one,” said Lipsey. “We thought we were making a film about the future. It turns out it’s about right now. Juno, Joey and James will make you laugh, then break your heart, then make you laugh about it.”
Adde Stephen Kelliher of Bankside Films said: “We are incredibly excited to be working with Matt Lipsey and this exceptional cast on ‘Almost You.’ Combining a wonderfully original premise with genuine emotional depth and humour, the film explores the very human desire to hold on to the people we love, in a world where technology increasingly challenges the boundaries of what is possible. It is a funny, moving and thought-provoking story which we believe will resonate strongly with audiences around the world.”
Matt Lipsey is repped by Curtis Brown Group, Juno Temple is repped by UTA, Maison 2, B-Side, Relevant and Lichter, Grossman; Joey King is repped by WME, Brillstein, The Lede Company and Hirsch Wallerstein; and James McAvoy is repped by United Agents, UTA, The Lede Company and Sloane Offer.
