Hubert de la Bouillerie, Editor on ‘Woodstock,’ ‘Witches of Eastwick,’ Dies at 75
Hubert de la Bouillerie, who edited films including George Miller’s “The Witches of Eastwick” and “Tango & Cash,” died Aug. 8 in Los Angeles. He was 75.
Among his credits was additional editing on the 1970 documentary “Woodstock,” along with “Highlander II: The Quickening,” “Mo’ Money,” “Doin’ Time,” “Blank Check” and “Celtic Pride.”
He also served as editor on “Police Academy 5” and “Police Academy 6.”
De la Bouillerie also moved behind the camera as a director. His directing credits included the 1996 television film “The Right to Remain Silent,” whose ensemble cast included Lea Thompson, LL Cool J, Patrick Dempsey, Christopher Lloyd, Amanda Plummer and Carl Reiner, as well as the 1997 science-fiction film “The Apocalypse.”
His wife, Debbie Robins de la Bouillerie, pre-deceased him. Earlier in his life, Hubert was married to Hilary Saltzman, daughter of film producer Harry Saltzman, who, together with Albert R. Broccoli, brought the original James Bond film series to the screen.
Later in his career, Hubert continued to develop his own projects as a writer and producer, reflecting the breadth of his interests and his lifelong commitment to storytelling.
He was also an accomplished photographer and writer. He published a novel, “Of Love and Evil: The Birth,” a gothic story weaving history, love, mystery and the supernatural.
Hubert’s family describes him as a storyteller at heart. “Whether working with moving images in an editing room, directing actors, developing a screenplay, looking through the lens of his camera or putting words onto a page, he was drawn throughout his life to creativity and artistic expression,” the family wrote in a statement.
De la Bouillerie is survived by his two children, Jacqueline Bell and Alexandre de la Bouillerie, as well as his sister Annie Goeke and his siblings Caroline Gruber, Juliette Glazebrook, Diane Cottrell, Helie de la Bouillerie and Alban de la Bouillerie.
