Leon Kennedy might be one of the coolest horror game protagonists. With that iconic curtain hairstyle with layered length, blocking chainsaws with a knife, and doing completely unnecessary backflips out of danger, he’s an action hero in the wrong genre, and that’s exactly why he remains a fan-favorite main character. While the second game introduced us to Mr. Kennedy, Resident Evil 4 made him who he is today, and now you can play one of the best Resident Evil games for less than $10, with its beautiful remake at its lowest price ever.

What I love about the Resi games is that, despite having an overarching narrative, you can play any entry at any point in your life, and almost all of them are solid starting points. My first Resident Evil game was 5, and I never played 4 until I was around 19. Yeah, I left it quite some time ago—about 10 years—and I was enamored with its stronger survival horror elements. Now, well, Resident Evil 4’s remake has taken the throne as my favorite entry because it’s a faithful recreation that delivers more action, more scares, and more Leon Kennedy.

In Resi 4, Leon Kennedy is a more worn-down face following the events of Raccoon City. As an agent for the United States government, he’s sent to a rural village in Spain to save the president’s kidnapped daughter, Ashley, only to find a cult-like setup involving people infected and controlled by a parasite called Las Plagas. Frustratingly, Leon ends up getting injected with the parasite himself, which makes things a little more difficult.

In familiar Resident Evil fashion, which was strengthened by the 2005 original, Resident Evil 4 sees you take on hordes of infected people in the typical third-person shooter manner. Resources are scarce, death is likely, and being scared is almost definite. Between surviving enemies in tense situations, puzzles will keep your brain ticking as you try to find Ashley and, hopefully, find a cure for the little parasite problem you have.

The original Resident Evil 4, much like Requiem did over two decades later, nailed the balance between horror and action. While Resi 5 and 6 moved towards the latter, before 7 and Village went full whammy into horror again, Resident Evil 4, and its eventual remake, delivered the best of both worlds, Hannah Montana-style.

If you’re looking to give the remake a try, now’s a great opportunity, as you can grab the new take on Resident Evil 4 for just $8.79 / £7.69 at Fanatical. That’s an absolute bargain, and for one of the best horror games of recent years (and technically, ever), this is a deal that’s hard to ignore. Honestly, I paid full price for it and had a great time.
