Flavio Bolsonaro lands in Miami after losing Brazil’s presidential election
Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro and his family have landed in Miami, Florida, after the candidate lost Sunday’s presidential election to incumbent Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
Bolsonaro and his family have been granted entry visas by the United States government after he refused to comply with a Brazilian Supreme Court order to surrender his passports.
The order was related to a money-laundering investigation in which he denies wrongdoing.
The Bolsonaro family’s journey to the US has drawn attention across the region.
Bolsonaro first fled from Brazil to Argentina and then to Ecuador alongside his wife and two daughters, Argentina’s migration authority said Wednesday.
According to Argentina’s migration department, they entered northern Argentina late on Tuesday before boarding a private jet to Guayaquil, Ecuador, and continuing to Miami.
This is a developing story.
