You might be forgiven if you can’t quite place Catherine Zeta-Jones by her accent. In “The Mask of Zorro,” she has a convincing Spanish lilt. In “No Reservations,” she nails the staccato of a New York chef. And her hard-boiled Midwestern sass in “Chicago” helped her win an Oscar.
But for her latest project, the AMC+ revenge thriller series “Kill Jackie,” she returns to both her natural intonation and her native land: Wales. It was the first time she had shot there, and the first time she had played a role using her own accent, she said in a video interview.

Ms. Zeta-Jones, 57, spent her childhood in the South Wales city of Swansea and the nearby beach town Mumbles. She moved to London at 16 after landing a role in the West End production of “42nd Street,” the start of a career that would take her to Hollywood and beyond.
Over the decades, she has kept a tight bond with Wales, trying to make it back often. She and her husband, Michael Douglas, also sent their two children there to stay with family for several weeks a year. “I feel very connected to my country after being away for so long,” she said, “because my mother is still there, my father, my brother, my cousins, my nieces, my nephews. We have a very tight-knit community and family.”
