Captain Price actor Barry Sloane wants to be in the Call of Duty movie and believes he's the most qualified person for the job.
When speaking with Dan Allen Gaming, Sloane was asked if he's interested in reprising his role as Price in the upcoming live-action Call of Duty film. The movie, directed by Peter Berg and written by Taylor Sheridan, is expected to be set in the Modern Warfare universe, but it's unclear if it's a new story or a direct adaptation of one of the games. With that said, it's hard to imagine a Modern Warfare movie without Price. Sloane wants in on the film and even went as far as to say he's the most qualified person on the planet to do it.
"I don't think there's anyone else on the planet who is as qualified for the job as I am," said Sloane. "Who has lived the character for almost a decade? Who understands the size of the projects, the love of that fan base, and has been on the journey with them from the get-go? Hollywood is a beast. Sometimes things are decided for certain reasons that can never be understood. But if you're asking me, would I like to do it? Absolutely, I would love to play him in a movie. 100%. That would be fantastic. But let's let the Hollywood cards fall where they land."
Sloane also noted that there's been a vocal outpouring from fans to have him play Price in the film, which he massively appreciates. He noted that typically, there's a group of names that a studio wants for a role like this, and they have to go through that process themselves. Nevertheless, he believes he'd be an "asset" to the production if he were to have the opportunity.
As games have gotten increasingly realistic, they've also started to use the likenesses of the actors who play them. This has led to demand from fans that film adaptations should use the actors from the games. Of course, Hollywood might make the argument that they're not as big of a box office draw compared to a more traditional mainstream movie star. Whether Call of Duty will utilize the game's cast remains to be seen.
Spoilers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 follow below.
Of course, if the Call of Duty movie is canonical to the games, where it falls in the timeline will dictate what characters can show up. Modern Warfare 4 brutally takes a number of characters off the board, including Captain Price. At the end of the game, the character is left to bleed out in the middle of the wilderness, with Ghost having said his goodbyes to his fallen leader. It's a tragic ending for the character, but one that felt right and leaves the future of the Modern Warfare games in question.
With that said, if the Call of Duty movie takes place within the canon, it would have to be set before Modern Warfare 4. If it's a sequel of sorts, it may focus on all-new characters or the surviving ones like Ghost and the Korean characters introduced in MW4. The film is due out in 2028, so we'll likely hear more on casting sometime next year as filming nears.
