‘Beast in Me’ Renewed for Season 2 With Claire Danes Returning

“The Beast in Me” has been renewed for Season 2 at Netflix, Variety has learned.

Claire Danes will return to star as Aggie Wiggs and executive produce as she did in Season 1. In addition, Season 1 showrunner Howard Gordon has signed an overall TV deal with Netflix under his Teakwood Lane Productions banner, through which he will develop new series for the streamer. Gordon remains attached to “The Beast in Me,” but he will serve as co-showrunner on Season 2 alongside Season 1 executive producer Daniel Pearle.

“We always told ourselves we’d only do a second season of ‘The Beast in Me’ if we found a story that was worthy of the first – and I’m thrilled to say we found it,” Gordon said. “We loved making this show and our audience seemed to love watching it, so we’re enormously grateful to Jinny Howe and Netflix, and to Karey Burke and 20th Television for giving us the chance to get the band back together and do it again.”

“The Beast in Me” was originally announced as a limited series when it was picked up in 2024. It also campaigned as a limited series at this year’s Emmy Awards, for which Season 1 star Matthew Rhys won the award for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series. The series also won the Emmy for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie or special (original dramatic score).

But in the tradition of “Big Little Lies” and other “limited series” before it, Netflix and “The Beast in Me” team began exploring the possibility of a second season and opened a writers’ room earlier this year. Not surprising, in the end, given the show’s critical acclaim and love from audiences. Aside from the attention it received on the awards circuit, “The Beast in Me” debuted at number one on the Netflix global top 10 chart the week it debuted and stayed in the top 10 for five weeks. It racked up over 43 million views in just seven weeks, per Netflix.

Gabe Rotter is the creator and an executive producer of “The Beast in Me.” As mentioned above, both Gordon and Pearle will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers on Season 2, with Danes again executive producing. Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O’Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, Claire Danes and Jodie Foster also executive produce. The series is produced by 20th Television.
