AMC Theatres Sets All-Time Record for Quarterly Revenue, Thanks to ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘The Odyssey’
The blockbuster success of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” and “The Odyssey” fueled a record-breaking quarter for AMC Theatres. Total revenue for the three-month period ended Sept. 30 hit $1.71 billion, up 31.6% from $1.30 billion a year earlier.
That marked the biggest sales haul ever posted by the world’s largest cinema chain, eclipsing the previous all-time high of $1.60 billion established in the second quarter of 2026, led by “Project Hail Mary and “Michael.” Prior to this year’s rebound, AMC’s quarterly revenue high-water mark was pro-COVID, set in the second quarter of 2019, when “Avengers: Endgame” was released and shattered any and all box office expectations.
AMC also swung to a profit: The company reported net income of $109.3 million, compared with a $298.2 million net loss in the third quarter of 2025. It logged earnings per share of 12 cents for the most recent quarter, after reporting a loss of 58 cents in the prior-year quarter.
“In recent years, where other key players in our industry collapsed, at AMC we repeatedly instead have talked about recovery. Today, we can finally say that AMC has recovered,” AMC CEO Adam Aron said in a statement. “To our studio partners, lenders, business partners, employees and our millions of passionate shareholders, thank you for standing with us as we traveled through a long, and at times brutal, road. Mere survival was never the goal. Our goal ultimately was to thrive, and that is exactly and precisely where our focus now lies. We are highly energized by the tremendous opportunities ahead.”
Aron attributed the better-than-expected quarter to several factors, including the rising popularity of premium large formats, the A-List subscription service and a resurgent box office. This summer was the best since COVID, as “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” became the third-highest grossing movie in history with $2.5 billion and Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey” powered to an astounding $1.8 billion. Overall domestic theatrical revenue has already eclipsed $8 billion, a milestone the industry didn’t cross last year until December. With potential juggernauts like “Avengers: Doomsday,” “Dune: Part III” and “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping” still to come on the schedule, this year will easily be the biggest at the box office in post-pandemic times.
Now when people are going to the movies, they’ve been more likely to indulge in popcorn and soda. AMC’s food and beverage revenue hit $589.5 million for the three-month period, up 30% from $451.8 million a year earlier. Meanwhile, ticket revenue rose to $954.5 million, a 33% increase from the $715.1 million a year earlier.
“Sometimes short but sweet is the best way to summarize performance,” Aron wrote in a five-paragraph statement. “We expect the remaining film slate to propel both the domestic and global box office to their highest full-year levels in seven years. We could not be more enthusiastic about AMC’s prospects as this year draws to a triumphant close.”
