‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Stays in Full Swing Atop U.K., Ireland Box Office as ‘The Odyssey’ Continues Voyage
Sony’s superhero blockbuster “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” held the top position at the U.K. and Ireland box office for a fifth consecutive weekend, generating £2.7 million ($3.7 million).
The film has collected $125.5 million after 27 days on release.
Universal’s epic “The Odyssey,” directed by Christopher Nolan, maintained second place in its seventh week on release, adding $3.2 million. The performance advanced the feature’s running total to $107.6 million.
“Insidious: Out of the Further,” distributed by Sony, secured third place in its sophomore frame, collecting $1.8 million to lift its cume to $6.6 million. Altitude’s live-action animation hybrid “Coyote vs. Acme” claimed fourth position in its second frame with $1.4 million.

Disney’s post-apocalyptic drama “The Dog Stars,” starring Jacob Elordi and Josh Brolin, debuted in fifth place with an opening frame of $1.4 million. Warner Bros.’ “The End of Oak Street” followed in sixth place during its third session, adding $892,214 to raise its running total to $8.1 million.
Warner Bros.’ 25th anniversary re-issue of “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” landed in seventh place, taking $707,194 over the frame. Paramount’s “Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie” placed eighth in its fourth week with $687,476, moving its total to $7.3 million.
Universal’s “One Night Only” opened in ninth position with $678,910. Disney rounded out the top 10 with Pixar’s “Toy Story 5,” which collected $647,952 in its 11th week of release to advance its running total to $77.6 million.
In specialized release, Mubi’s “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma,” directed by Jane Schoenbrun, delivered a resilient second weekend, generating $186,113 across the Friday-to-Sunday frame and $248,459 across the full four-day bank holiday weekend. That performance propelled the film’s cumulative gross to $981,195. The release registered a slim 39% drop, achieving the joint-best hold of any wide or saturation release from the prior session alongside “Insidious: Out of the Further.” Light House Cinema in Dublin ranked as the top-grossing site for the title, followed by Glasgow Film Theatre, Picturehouse Central, Rio Dalston, and Curzon Soho, with the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton registering a 3% increase over its launch weekend. The theatrical run continues with 35mm presentations at Watershed Bristol and Everyman’s Screen on the Green. Beyond the U.K. and Ireland, Mubi has rolled the picture out across North America, Latin America, Italy, Germany, and Austria.
Looking ahead to the upcoming theatrical frame, mid-week event programming kicked off on Wednesday Sept. 2 with CinemaLive rolling out “La Traviata on Sydney Harbour 2021” alongside concert film “Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour – Live from Paris,” followed by Dreamz Entertainment’s Telugu-language rom-com “Romanchakam.”
Wide debuts across 300+ locations are led by True Brit Entertainment’s “The Death of Robin Hood,” directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, and Bill Skarsgård, alongside Neon’s supernatural horror “Leviticus,” directed by Adrian Chiarella. Specialized, international, and catalog offerings opening the same day include Kent Jones’ “Late Fame” via BFI Distribution across 100+ locations, Aardman’s “Shaun the Sheep: Farmageddon,” Studiocanal’s 35th anniversary reissue of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” Super Nature’s “The Incomer,” and limited rollouts for “Fall,” “Gail Daughtry and the Celebrity Sex Pass,” and 40th anniversary screenings of “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.” Lionsgate is also returning the “Hunger Games” franchise to cinemas with re-releases spanning “The Hunger Games,” “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” both installments of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay,” and “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.”
The weekend concludes with Disney re-releasing “Cars” for its 20th anniversary on Saturday Sept. 5, before Dogwoof debuts sports documentary “Lomu” on Sept. 7 across more than 100 locations.
