‘Spaceship Earth’ TV Series Based on EPCOT Ride Gets Disney+ Pilot Order

Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a “Spaceship Earth” TV series inspired by the EPCOT ride of the same name.

Jason Fuchs is attached to serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Michael Waldon also executive producing under his Anomaly Pictures banner. Lee Toland Krieger (“You,” “Riverdale,” “Shadow & Bone”) will executive produce and direct the pilot. Adam Fishbach (“Love, Victor,” “The Other Black Girl”) is also an executive producer, as is Adam Fasullo of Anomaly Pictures. 20th Television, where Anomaly and Fishbach are under overall deals, will produce.

The logline for the pilot states, “When a mission to avert an imminent global cataclysm goes awry, a small band of teenagers from Earth’s past and future must join forces to confront a threat as vast and mysterious as time itself.”

Casting for the pilot is now underway.

Spaceship Earth has been a central part of EPCOT since the park opened in 1982, housed in the iconic geodesic sphere that has come to symbolize EPCOT. It has undergone a number of changes and updates in that time, but has continued to focus on the history of communication and highlights major breakthroughs like the invention of mass communication devices including the radio and telephones as well as the internet.

Should the pilot go to series, it would be the latest onscreen project based on a Disney theme park ride. Most famously, Disney produced the “Pirates of the Carribean” film franchise, which has grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide. Other films based on Disney rides include “Haunted Mansion,” “Country Bear Jamboree,” and “Jungle Cruise.”

Disney had previously attempted to launch an interconnected universe of projects based on The Magic Kingdom, beginning with a “Society of Explorers and Adventurers” TV series from Ronald D. Moore, though none of those ever moved forward.

Fuchs was most recently the co-creator, co-showrunner, and executive producer on the HBO Max series “IT: Welcome to Derry,” which aired its first season in late 2025. He is currently writing a live-action feature adaptation of “My Hero Academia” for Netflix and Legendary. His past writing credits include “Argylle,” “Wonder Woman,” and “Ice Age: Continental Drift.”

Waldron is best known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having written the screenplay for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and also for developing the Disney+ Marvel series “Loki.” Up next, he is the co-writer of “Avengers: Doomsday.” He was also the creator of the Starz pro wrestling drama “Heels,” recently co-created the Hulu series “Chad Powers” starring Glen Powell, and served as a writer on “Rick and Morty.”

Fuchs is repped by WME and Goodman Genow. Waldron is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Shenkman Law. Krieger is repped by UTA and Davis Law Group.

This marks the latest in a growing string of pilot orders at Disney+. The streamer recently announced a pilot pickup for a reboot of “The Mickey Mouse Club” as well as pilots for shows based on “The Last Kids on Earth” and the movie “Aquamarine.” Disney+ also recently picked up a series based on “Afterlife with Archie,” which had previously received a script-to-series committment.
