Ex-‘American Idol’ Contestant Caleb Flynn Found Guilty of Murdering Wife

Caleb Flynn, a former contestant on “American Idol,” was found guilty of murdering his wife in their Ohio home. A jury deliberated for around two hours on Tuesday and convicted him on all nine counts that he faced of of murder, assault and tampering with evidence.

On the morning of Monday, Feb. 16, Ashley Flynn, 37, was found dead in the couple’s Ohio home in Tipp City. Caleb, 40, called 911 around 2:30 a.m. and said that someone had broken into their home and shot Ashley, who was pronounced dead at the scene. According to local outlets, Caleb told police that he didn’t see anybody in the home, but his garage door was open. Police reportedly found a side door to the garage that was open and that there was fridge in front of the door that would’ve needed to be pushed to open it. Caleb was booked into the Miami County Jail on the following Thursday.

“While the defendant told law enforcement that he was sleeping, his electronic devices documented something different. They documented movement and activity in the hours leading up to Ashley’s murder,” said Matthew C. Joseph, assistant prosecuting attorney for the Miami County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said in his closing argument. “The defendant said he was sleeping. His devices say he was awake and moving.”

The attorney added, “Being the victim allowed him to do that without being the husband who left his wife for a mistress. Instead, he’d be the husband whose wife was tragically murdered by an unknown intruder.”

Caleb was a contestant on “American Idol” in 2013. In 2013, he said in his “Road to Hollywood” interview on “American Idol” that he was a music pastor and that his wife encouraged him to audition for the singing competition show. “I absolutely love the lord and I love my wife more than anything,” he said in his interview. “She is very, very pretty. I love her. I’m just a normal person who absolutely loves to sing more than anything in the world.”
