‘Evil Dead Burn’ Sets HBO Max Release Date in Time for Halloween

One of the year’s scariest movies will be ready to stream before Halloween: “Evil Dead Burn” will be released on HBO Max on Oct. 2.

The third movie since the “Evil Dead” series reboot in 2013 (and sixth film in the franchise overall) had its theatrical release July 10. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, “Evil Dead Burn” stars Souheila Yacoub (“Dune: Part Two”) as a woman looking for comfort from her in-laws after her husband’s death. Their gathering at a secluded house quickly turns into a hellish reunion as the family members turn into Deadites. 

The film also stars Hunter Doohan (“Wednesday,” “Daredevil: Born Again”), Luciane Buchanan (“The Night Agent”), Tandi Wright (“Pearl”), Erroll Shand (“Chief of War”), George Pullar (“It Only Takes a Night”) and Maude Davey (”The Newsreader”). 

The “Evil Dead” horror franchise was created by Sam Raimi that now spans six films and a television series. The franchise follows various characters as they face demonic entities known as Deadites, raised with the help of a strange book of the dead (known as the Naturom Demonto in movies one, four and five, and as the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis in movies two, three and six).

The original trilogy starred Bruce Campbell in “The Evil Dead” (1981), “Evil Dead II” (1987) and “Army of Darkness” (1992). The franchise continued with the 2013 standalone sequel “Evil Dead.” Campbell reprised his role in a Starz television series, “Ash vs Evil Dead,” which ran from 2015-2018. The fifth film in the franchise, “Evil Dead Rise,” was released in 2023. A seventh film, “Evil Dead Wrath,” helmed by Francis Galluppi, is slated for an April 2028 release.
