Darren Aronofsky to Receive Director’s Award at Poland’s Camerimage Film Festival
Darren Aronofsky will receive the Award for Director at the 34th ToruńCamerimage International Film Festival in Poland.
The festival, which celebrates the art of cinematography, will take place Nov. 7-14 in Toruń, Poland. Organizers announced the honor Thursday, recognizing the Oscar-winning director’s distinctive approach to filmmaking and his longstanding collaborations with cinematographers, particularly Matthew Libatique, who has shot much of the director’s work.
“Honouring Aronofsky at ToruńCamerimage is a tribute to a director whose work demonstrates the immense power of cinema when form becomes an integral part of the story being told,” festival organizers said in a statement.
Aronofsky made his feature directorial debut with the psychological thriller “Pi” in 1998, which earned him the directing award at Sundance. He followed it with 2000’s “Requiem for a Dream,” starring Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly, Marlon Wayans and Ellen Burstyn, who received an Oscar nomination for her performance.
His 2008 drama “The Wrestler,” starring Mickey Rourke, won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, while 2010’s “Black Swan,” starring Natalie Portman, earned five Academy Award nominations, including best picture and best director. Portman won the Oscar for best actress for her performance.
Aronofsky’s other directing credits include “The Fountain,” “Noah” and “mother!” His 2022 drama “The Whale” marked Brendan Fraser’s return to a leading film role and earned the actor his first Academy Award. Most recently, Aronofsky directed the 2025 crime thriller “Caught Stealing,” starring Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz and Regina King.
Camerimage, one of the world’s leading festivals dedicated to cinematography, annually recognizes filmmakers and cinematographers for their contributions to visual storytelling. Its main competition awards the Golden Frog for outstanding cinematography, alongside a series of honorary awards recognizing achievements across the filmmaking industry.
