Curry Barker’s ‘Obsession’ Follow-Up ‘Anything But Ghosts’ Sets May 2027 Release Date From Focus Features, Blumhouse

Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster have slated Curry Barker‘s upcoming horror-comedy “Anything But Ghosts” for release on May 7, 2027. Focus has worldwide rights for the film, while Universal Pictures International will handle international distribution.

Barker directs “Anything But Ghosts” and co-wrote the script with his “Obsession” star and longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson. The pair are also co-leads in the project, starring alongside Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, Bryce Dallas Howard and Aaron Paul.

The official logline for the film reads, “When a group of fame-seeking wannabe ‘ghosthunters’ find themselves in over their heads, things spiral wildly and terrifyingly out of control.”

Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Jason Blum, Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath serve as producers. Executive producers include Daniel Bekerman, Barker, Tomlinson and Ben Ross. Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Spooky Pictures, Divide/Conquer produce in association with Image Nation and That’s a Bad Idea.

Barker’s debut film “Obsession” was one of the biggest box office stories of the summer. The supernatural horror galvanized the Gen Z movie-going population and grossed $519 million worldwide against a budget of less than $1 million. It also achieved a 39% jump in earnings in its second weekend, a feat rarely seen in the current box office climate.

“Obsession” was also a critical smash, earning early Oscar buzz for Inde Navarrette, who co-starred in the project alongside Michael Johnston, Megan Lawless and Tomlinson. The film follows a hopelessly lonely young man named Bear (Johnston), who uses a mysterious toy called a “One Wish Willow” to make his crush, Nikki (Navarrette), fall for him. The wish, of course, goes terribly wrong, leading to bloody consequences for Bear, Nikki and their friends.
