Alan Ritchson Says ‘Jack Reacher’ Planned to Adapt ‘Die Trying’ Book for a Future Season Before ‘Someone Got Re-Elected’

“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson had plans to adapt the second book in the popular “Jack Reacher” series for the Prime Video show — before a certain “someone” got re-elected, he wrote in a comment posted to Threads on Friday.

Responding to a user who wrote that “every year I’m sad to learn that next season won’t be the book where he kills his way through a white supremacist militia camp,” Ritchson explained that the novel (titled “Die Trying”) is his “favorite book.” “Fun fact: I had it approved until someone got re-elected.”

The thriller novel by author Lee Child was originally released in 1998, and as the comment suggests, follows Jack Reacher and a politician’s daughter as they are abducted by a radical militia to be used as leverage in political negotiations.

While Ritchson didn’t call out a politician by name, he has been outspoken about Trump and his disapproval of the politician in the past. On an episode of the “Happy Sad Confused With Josh Horowitz” podcast, the actor spoke about the Epstein files and Trump, saying “That b-tch has the keys to the nuclear codes… He’s like all up into the 13-year-olds. Like dude, go to jail.”

His comments earned him a response from White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson. “Just as President Trump has said, he’s been totally exonerated on anything relating to Epstein,” she said in a public statement.

Season 4 of “Reacher” premiered in August on Prime Video. Season 3 of the show was Prime Video’s most-watched season on the service since “Fallout” Season 1; it earned a Season 5 renewal ahead of the premiere of Season 4.
