‘Adults’ Season 2 Jumps 40% in Viewership From Season 1
FX‘s ensemble comedy series “Adults” has seen significant growth with its second season.
Though Disney did not provide exact metrics, the company reports that Season 2 saw a 40% increase compared to Season 1, accounting for viewers across Hulu and Disney+ globally after 12 days of viewing. Much of the growth coming from outside of the U.S. — international viewership was up by 100%.
Season 1 is also seeing renewed attention, with streaming viewership up 50% since the release of the standalone prequel episode “Marathon Day” on July 31, a month before Season 2 dropped.
“Adults” has also grown in critical acclaim, jumping from a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes after Season 1 to a 100%. Variety critic Alison Herman wrote, “I frankly did not enjoy the show’s first batch of episodes, which strained mightily to generate zeitgeisty relevance and repeatable bits before its ensemble had fully cohered. But in Season 2, the co-creation of ‘Tonight Show’ alumni — and real-life couple — Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw no longer has the fake-it-til-you-make-it feel of trying to make fetch happen, to use a millennial reference the Gen Z protagonists would be unlikely to understand. ‘Adults’ finally has its own momentum, largely generated by a cast whose rapport obviates the need for any sweeping statements about their generation.”

Per the official logline, “Adults” follows “a group of twenty-somethings in New York leaning on each other to navigate love, work, friendship and family. Samir (Malik Elassal), Billie (Lucy Freyer), Paul Baker (Jack Innanen), Issa (Amita Rao) and Anton (Owen Thiele) are five friends crashing together in Samir’s childhood home.”
Kronengold and Shaw executive produce alongside Nick Kroll, Sarah Naftalis, Jonathan Krisel, Alicia Van Couvering and Rob Rosell. FX Productions is the studio.
